After many weeks of waiting, the day has finally arrived. There is nothing like a day at the State Fair. Although this day comes with a great loss, (RIP Big Tex) the smell of fried foods and animals still permeates the air. I think one of my favorite parts of the fair is the “Animal Corral”. They are just so dang cute and funny lookin. I could stay in there all day. Maybe I should have just gone to the zoo instead.

Like any true Texan, I also inhaled a Fletcher’s corn dog smothered in ketchup and spent way too much money taking pictures in the photo booth (that will most likely end up in the trash - how am I supposed to be photo ready in 0.000001 seconds??).

Until next year. When the greetings of Big Tex, “Howdy Folks!” will be ringing throughout Fair Park once again.

After our busy weekend in Austin we decided we needed to take a relaxing walk around White Rock Lake. I love how it makes you forget you are in the middle of Dallas, even just for a moment. We should really make an effort to go out there more often. Nice ending to a fun weekend.

Last weekend I went to the Arboretum on my day off. I guess it wasn’t really the weekend since it was Monday, but it was my weekend. I had really been looking forward to going to the State Fair, but we were a little sickly and freezing - so we took a rain check. I felt a little weird about going to the Arboretum by myself (since everyone else had to work…suckers) but the pumpkin patch was calling my name. So I put on my biggest puffy coat, leather boots, did my hair in rollers, and strapped on my camera so everyone would just assume I had lost it and leave me alone. Ok, really I didn’t, but I did think about it. Turns out there was a swarm of stay-at-home moms with their little ones doing the “Woo Woo” dance (whatever that is) and they were way too busy herding cattle to worry about the crazy lady wandering around taking pictures by herself. Anyway, it ended up being refreshing and a pretty successful morning overall.

I enjoy looking at things from different perspectives. Whether it be a new place or culture, life experience or challenge - I like seeing it from different angles. I think I just like the newness. As cheesy as it sounds, being behind a camera lens has opened up a new world for me. I see the little things. The things that I would never notice otherwise - the details. It’s given me a new appreciation and excitement. This blog is where I will share my new hobby through photos, commentary, and most likely some things that just make me laugh.
